One Acadiana, the regional economic development group that replaced Lafayette's chamber of commerce, on Tuesday unveiled two priorities it would like the next Lafayette city-parish president and council to "support, articulate and advance."

They include executing a prioritized road and bridge infrastructure program and amending the home rule charter and consolidated government.

Ahead of the upcoming local elections the group “One Acadiana” on Tuesday presented its final ‘Priorities for a Better Lafayette’.

Members of the economic development group talked about the need for better roads and fixing the charter. They announced a set of action items for the region. Business leaders talked about the importance of these priorities.

One Acadiana held a press conference Tuesday at the South Regional Library in Lafayette to discuss a prioritized infrastructure program and amending the city-parish charter.

The discussion centered around making smarter investments in roads and bridges based on technical analysis and public input.

One Acadiana kicked off its “Priorities For A Better Lafayette” initiative at a meeting Tuesday.

The acceleration of PlanLafayette is a primary focus here in the Hub City. As part of the initiative, one of four action steps is finding a clear way to re-purpose the old federal courthouse building.

One Acadiana held a another press conference today at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center to focus on accelerating the implementation of PlanLafayette, the parish’s 20-year comprehensive plan. The organization said the plan is one of three key “Priorities for a Better Lafayette” it is advancing in the upcoming local elections.

The big news, though, is Lafayette’s new metro just pushed past the Shreveport-Bossier City area as Louisiana’s third-largest metro population behind the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas.
For the sixth time in seven years, the Lafayette MSA is ranked in the top 25 metro areas in the Best Performing Cities Index . Lafayette gained five spots, coming in at 19 out of the 200 largest metros. Editors note that Lafayette has benefited from a strong energy sector.

Lafayette residents are the happiest in the U.S. according to a study published by the National Bureau of Economic Research.
