Lafayette, LA – One Acadiana (1A) received an award of Communication Excellence from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), a national organization whose mission is to support and develop chamber professionals to lead business and their communities.

Participate in Manufacturing Week October 2-6, 2017 virtually using Nepris. Increase industry exposure in local schools, broaden student perceptions about different manufacturing jobs, and expand knowledge about high-wage, high demand jobs.

Lafayette’s burgeoning high-tech sector, if properly nurtured and supported, could become an economic powerhouse in the 21st century. Tech companies new to Louisiana are now adding jobs by the hundreds. They’re high-paying positions in an intellectually rigorous field that are being filled by some of the world’s best and brightest, including young Louisianans who probably would have sought employment elsewhere if not for the opportunity at home.

Acadian Ambulance founder Richard Zuschlag say this region's loyal and dedicated workforce has been the key to success

Richard Zuschlag, for a half-century a Northern transplant in Lafayette, said the success of the $500 million company he co-founded here resides in the loyalty, dedication and grit of the Acadiana workforce.

"It's hard to find people who work harder," Zuschlag told an audience at One Acadiana's Lessons from the Corner Office series Friday. "We've been successful because of the employees."

Over the past decade Louisiana significantly improved the state’s economic competitiveness, in part by developing a system of economic development programs that generated unprecedented levels of private investment. 1A supports protecting and strengthening those programs that have demonstrated the strongest return on public investment.

Perhaps the biggest accomplishment of the 2017 Regular Session was criminal justice reform. A bipartisan package of 10 bills, developed through the Louisiana Justice Reinvestment Task Force, passed both chambers. The overhaul is projected to reduce the state’s prison population by 10 percent over the next decade, saving the state approximately $262 million. Most of the savings will be reinvested to strengthen rehabilitation and reentry programs and improve public safety.
